We’re hiring a PHP Backend Developer

Rubber Cheese is on the lookout for a Laravel/PHP Developer to help with our expanding client base and ambitious plans for company growth.

You’ll be working on diverse digital platforms for local, national and global brands such as Pernod Ricard, Plymouth Gin and Eureka! The National Children’s Museum. You’ll also be helping us to develop our own digital products as we gradually build up this side of the business.

Not wanting to limit applications, you could be based from either our Sawbridgeworth studio on the river, or our shared creative hub in Cambridge (with a twice monthly Hertfordshire studio visit). Salary £38k to £42k

Day to day tasks:

  • Develop bespoke websites and often complex systems from scratch
  • Build additional functions to existing systems
  • Development & integration with WordPress
  • Troubleshoot, maintenance and support for existing client websites
  • Cross browser and user centred testing
  • Collaborate and be an active member of the team
  • Help solve challenging problems
  • Good knowledge of:
  • PHP
  • Laravel
  • WordPress
  • HTML(5) & CSS(3)
  • JavaScript
  • jQuery

You’ll have:

  • Excellent Objected Orientated PHP skills
  • Experienced using PHP MVC frameworks, essentially Laravel
  • Routinely use Git version control
  • Excellent knowledge of MySQL and good database design
  • Experience building bespoke web applications
  • Familiar with Linux shell
  • Ability to work independently and manage your workload and deadlines
  • Acute attention to detail, perfection is your middle name
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong team mentality but can also work well independently
  • An endless drive for efficiency, performance and speed throughout your work
  • A desire to learn new technologies, and keep up to date with the industry
  • 2 references that testify to the above

Advantage if experienced with:

  • Experience with WordPress
  • Experience developing and managing cloud infrastructure with AWS
  • Experience working with front-end JavaScript frameworks
  • Responsive development
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of SEO
  • WooCommerce
  • CakePHP (or equivalent PHP MVC framework)
  • Sass (SCSS)
